A Fool’s Trust
The one who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.
– Proverbs 28:26
Who are three people in your life that you trust? Who was included in that list – a spouse, employer, friend, pastor?
Did you list yourself?
Most of us probably didn’t list ourselves but our actions reveal mottos such as “in Renae I trust.”
Our lack of prayer and seeking God’s will displays the extent of our self-reliance. Proverbs does not describe a person who trusts in himself as wise, capable, or noteworthy – it calls him a fool.
What would a fool do? A fool would do what a fool wants to do rather than what God wants him to do.
A fool assesses a situation for himself, creates a course of action, and forges ahead without first asking God for wisdom.
James presents one of the most beautiful promises in Scripture that if we ask God for wisdom He will give it.
Where will your wisdom come from this weekend – yourself of God?
