Because of God’s Faithful Love

In Psalm 6, David cries out to God for mercy. Actually, he’s begging for mercy. He’s crying out that he is weak, his bones are shaking, and his whole being is shaken with terror.

In verse four, he begs, “Turn, Lord! Rescue me; save me because of your faithful love.”

This cry is a strong reminder of David’s understanding of the Lord’s faithfulness. He doesn’t ask the Lord to rescue him so that he, David, could escape his pain and fear. He doesn’t ask for rescue because of how many tremendous battles victories he had won.

He asks for rescuing based solely on the fact that God’s love is faithful.

David knows that God would keep His promise. He also knows that he, David, is unworthy. There’s nothing that he had done or could promise to do that would change God’s plan.

We should approach God in prayer the same way. When we are in distress, we should turn to God – not to worldly comforts like food, entertainment, or relationships.

Don’t be afraid to cry out to God. Tell Him exactly how you feel. And say out loud that you trust that He will be true to His faithful love.

As 2014 came to a close, I needed a Bible study to get me in the word personally. Ever since I attended a Christian-based university, I have believed that a person’s quiet time should not be the same passage that they are reading for homework, studying for a paper, or researching for a sermon. I do well with personal goals so I decided to start this study because it had a reading plan, thought, and prayer for every day. I love that.

There is a video that goes along with the study that I did not watch, so I cannot speak for the video portion.

On a physical, non-spiritual note, this book is HUGE! It’s 437 pages long and a beast to haul around with you. So this book took a permanent home in my car and I read and reflected on Scripture every day on my lunch break. I don’t know about you, but by 12:30, I need more Scripture in my life to make it through the afternoon with a Christ-like attitude.

Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are small among the clans of Judah; One will come from you to be ruler over Israel for Me. His origin is from antiquity, from eternity.” – Micah 5:2

West Tennessee has some crazy town names: Three Way, Frog Jump, Bucksnort, Milan (pronounced MY-lynn) and Medina (pronounced Muh-DINE-uh). I like to think Bethlehem had a similar reputation. Micah writes that it is a small clan in Judah. And study of the Hebrew language reveals that it actually means “House of Bread.” Bethlehem would fit in nicely as a town near me.

When Faced with Sin

when faced-01

If we really all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, then what do we do when we are confronted with this sin? The Bible lists plenty of good and bad examples for us, but let’s take a quick look at the first two kings of Israel to reflect on our own lives.

Saul, after being commanded to kill all the Amalekites and their possessions and failing to do so, reports back to Samuel that “I have carried out the Lord’s instructions.” Samuel cuts him off with a reproach and yet Saul continues to say, “The troops brought them … The troops took sheep and cattle …”
